Southbourne Co-operative has been open since the 50's. Here is a picture showing the delievery truck in the 50's.
1945 - 1955, Portsea Island Co-op opened 47 new shops, all of which were self-service, and at the time were amongst the largest in Europe.

As living standards began to grow, and the era of mass production arrived, the Society responded by selling more non-food goods, and opening several more hair and fashion salons catering for the increasingly affluent younger generation and the emergence of ‘the teenager’!
