Culture was a large part of the 1950's, as that was when Elvis Presely was around. It was also when tv became more popular, although they were not that common to have. In 1950, after the war, toy dolls became fashionable and was when Barbie was introduced.

In 1950 was when Elvis Presley began his career as 'The King' of rock and roll.

1950's Entertainment...

In the fifties if you had a television, you would be the coolest kid on the block. Even though at the beginning they only had a few shows, anything would be fun ,in 1956 some scientists did a study on how much kids ages 10-16 watched television. The results showed that a average kid watched six hours of television a day which was equal to how long they went to school everyday.

Also motor racing was a well known sport and was spectated by many local people at Goodwood.

The picture below shows the start of a 500cc race in 1950, on the former wartime aerodrome which was adapted as a motor racing circuit by the Duke of Richmond.
